Wildseeds is partnering with other Black feminists in New Orleans to host “I LIVE for the FUNK: Communities Creating Resistance, Imagining Beyond the State,” a day-long participatory and playful lead-up event — aka ‘pre-funk party’ — to INCITE!’s upcoming conference to be held in Chicago in Spring 2015: The Color of Violence 4—Beyond the State: Inciting Transformative Possibilities. [INCITE! Women of Color Against Violence is a national organization of radical feminists of color advancing a movement to end violence against women of color and their communities. For more info about the conference, visit here.]
This first local New Orleans COV4 pre-funk party will be held on Saturday, November 22nd from NOON-7:00PM, and it will highlight discussions on various forms of violence impacting our communities; emerging strategies and imaginative frameworks for addressing violence beyond policing, mass incarceration, and other systems of control and regulation; and provide a gathering space to socialize. At the event, Wildseeds is also coordinating the return of our Cosmic (Re)Dress pop-up shop!
The day will go as follows:

- 3:00pm-7:00pm: Cosmic (Re)Dress Pop-Up Shop**

*Sci-fi Generator Writing Salons are tools for radical imagining that allow us to write our stories and tell our truths, cultivating that creative pulse and visioning power in all of us. In New Orleans, Wildseeds hosts salons where we identify issues happening in our local communities and through collaborative speculative fiction visioning, storytelling, and writing, we work together to build worlds in which to explore those issues deeply. Adrienne Maree Brown founded the first salons in Detroit and coined the term “collaborative ideation” – creating a future that isn’t seeded from one mind, but woven together from lots of minds and hearts and bodies. Join us as we vision together, write together, and share our stories at the COV4 Pre-Funk party. For this special salon, we’ll be exploring the ways violence impacts our communities and creating stories together that explore emerging strategies and imaginative frameworks for addressing that violence.
**For the Cosmic (Re)Dress Pop-Up Shop, Wildseeds is offering a space for women of color vendors to sell their work! We are looking for artisans of all varieties — craftswomen, visual artists, photographers, jewelry-makers, zine makers, chefs, writers and poets and musicians sharing their work, any and all women of color interested in selling products.
